Which computer upgrade did you regret the most?

Around 2 years ago I decided to finally upgrade my monitors. I had two 24 inch HD monitors and decided that 4k monitors had come down in price (plus everyone was done upgrading after the pandemic and working from home). So I picked up two 34 inch 4k monitors.

Now, I do some streaming. My Nvidia 2080 super did NOT like these 2 monitors, multiple sessions of the game I play open AND streaming. So I was reduced to 1 instance of my game in potato mode in order to be able to play and stream until I got a new video card. I had been planning on upgrading but I was trying to hold out for the 4 series. However, the crypto mining was at it's end and the 3 series were coming down in price and I was able to snag a really good deal on a 3080 Ti. Good deal. Did you think this was over?

With the new video card, I needed to upgrade my power supply. And of course, I have a husband to do all of this for me so I got to listen to loads of cursing since apparently my case, which I didn't upgrade, isn't the roomiest.

Honestly it's been a pretty good set up. There isn't anything I can't play in the highest quality and stream at the same time. I can play 3 instances of the game I tend to stream in the highest quality without issue. More if I'm willing to lower the quality. So overall, I can't complain. But now I'm at the point where I need to decide if I want to upgrade again only 2 years later to a 4 as they become cheaper (I'd use the 3080 ti for blender) or wait and see what the eventual 6 series will do. Choices, choices.

Oh, and the one thing I was forced to purchase was a mac 4 pro. o-O still hate it in case the individual is reading this.

Did you get a cheap power supply that then fried your computer from the inside? Did you spend way too much money on a used gadget that you could have gotten cheaper? Or did you get a processor or graphics card that didn't live up to your expectations?

I've bought a tower case super silence and in the end I still use the foam noise cancelling ear plugs.

Yeah i kw. The ctrl x,c,v, close button for any app etc… they take time to get used to. Hopefully you have been used to macs by now hahah.

Moving to a macbook because I wanted to make IOS apps at the end spent more time working on getting app approved than making money.

Now I also have to pay for an expensive VPS with 32GB Ram to run few things vs running them on my computer will def get a windows computer soon

A while ago I bought a macbook from Facebook marketplace. It was like an older, retired guy so I didn't think the laptop would be used very much. Couple days later it started showing a warning for the battery telling me to bring it to an Apple store. Now it's collecting dust in the closet.

Samasung 750 EVO SSD when it was launched but unfortunately the OS crashed within 20 days. I tried to get a replacement but the service center refused it. I moved back to HDD.

I usually buy the Samsung Pro SSD versions since here they have 5 years guarantee, never had any problems with them, great SSD`s.

Trying to get Asahi Linux to run on my M1 Mac was a bit of a nightmare

I used to buy Samsung products and never had issues with them. This was the only bad item delivered by Samsung, and it's still unusable.

recent regret is buying lcd monitor arms. wish i spent more on a better kit. most mistakes are simply that. pay cheap u will pay twice.
otoh some of my favorite purchases recently were led light bar for monitor & trackball mouse.

None, all my upgrades have been planned. I only upgrade when I have to or there is a good deal out there. Not sure if the upgrade from SSD from NVME drives was worth it though.

the performance increase is good but unless you're doing high volume of read/writes ever day i wouldnt say there's a need to upgrade. some of my computers are m.2, some are ssd. all high-end samsung drives. no difference in day to day activities. if youre doing a new build may as well go nvme.

adding more rams to weak CPU

Luckily, one of my mates owns a pc supply/restoration shop so all my upgrades have gone perfect. All I need now is a new graphics card and screen.

Already wrote about this but I hate gaming computers with a passion... Always got most expensive, fastest gaming pc and best sound card at that and it ALWAYS broke, something didn't work... Dells for life eh.
