Well, I think you will not be in the majority here : ))
I use my hands and brain for creating High quality backlinks but I do use the tools as well. And I think most of us BHW members are doing the same thing.

Just Scrapebox and Manual for me. Have tried other tools but they seem so complex to me and I am worried about penalties.

tools are woked on 1920s seo, if you want to see some traffic, best possible way to build links by hand. and if you want to use tools , thats for tier 3 links blast but it pretty useless now a days

I used to use GSA. Haha, it was power house few years back. But I believe, Bots doesn't work anymore. You need the real-links from the manually written articles and posts.

I totally agree with you - manual links are the best, but I combine manual link building with the service that does the same.

Don't use tools for your link building strategies, except for tier 3 link blasting. It will hurt your website more than it will gain
