I’ve been scraping backlinks with a couple of tools, but most get caught. What automation tools are still safe to use for scraping and indexing in 2025?
Which automation tool is the safest for backlink scraping?

By scraping backlinks, what exactly do you mean? Scraping the old link: operator that Google etc used to use? Extracting urls from know backlink drops? Or are you looking for backlink exports from Ahrefs etc?
If it's the latter, and you don't want to pay for accounts with the big SEO tools, there are gigs out there that will give you one-off backlink exports from Ahrefs, Semrush etc. Or you can look at @jimbobo2779's DomDetailer that has it's own queryable backlink database: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/domdetailer-cheaper-moz-and-majestic-stats-api.792603/

I’m interested in creating my own SEO tool and part of this is backlink detection. I’m already aware I need to follow polite scraping.

You can use a device, or you can use any Third Party scraping tool. Most users use a third party scraping tool (Check BlackHatWorld Marketplace), since it may be more efficient to do so.

As the aforementioned jimbobo2779, I can say that you will want proxies, at least. Proxies will make scraping pretty trivial.

I have been trying to figure this out too. Most tools I tested either get flagged quickly or stop pulling quality data after a while, so I am still looking for something stable and safe to use.
