Low footprint, good firewall & antivirus: http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/free-internet-security.php
Disable their geek buddy, and its even not that annoying.
For An Antivirus Application: Kaspersky or Eset NOD32
However, I suggest that you get a registered copy of Malwarebytes Antimalware
as well. By having both of them, you will pretty much be trouble-free as far as
Viruses and Malware go.
Malwarebytes although it's a great software it really pisses me off. It sometimes blocks legitimate sites and the "Add to ignore list" doesn't work straight away.
Eset Nod32 is the best. A lot of computer technicians (that know what they are doing) will recommend this program. I have recommend it to my clients in the past as well and everyone of them was pleased. I used to have people that just bought and installed other anti virus programs to uninstall and switch to eset.
I've installed eset smart security (nod32 with firewall) on about 10 pcs.
Never got any virus in the last years. However, you'll need to set it up properly if you don't want it to block almost anything.
