Please tell me which antivirus is the best for desktop? Please tell me free antivirus.

Two different birds there.

Best IMO = Kaspersky

Best Free = Microsoft Security Essentials

I have always used AVG.. Not bulletproof but pretty good

Low footprint, good firewall & antivirus: http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/free-internet-security.php
Disable their geek buddy, and its even not that annoying.

For An Antivirus Application: Kaspersky or Eset NOD32

However, I suggest that you get a registered copy of Malwarebytes Antimalware
as well. By having both of them, you will pretty much be trouble-free as far as
Viruses and Malware go.

I am using Avast for about 2 years before that I used ESET NOD32
Avast works fine for me

I'm also using Avast for some time now, and it works nice. Recommended!

Malwarebytes although it's a great software it really pisses me off. It sometimes blocks legitimate sites and the "Add to ignore list" doesn't work straight away.

The 3 Elite that has kept my pc clean :

- Microsoft Security Essentials
- Spybot Search and destroy
- Malware Bytes

Run these on scheduled scans everyday and you shouldn't have any problems.

Eset Nod32 is the best. A lot of computer technicians (that know what they are doing) will recommend this program. I have recommend it to my clients in the past as well and everyone of them was pleased. I used to have people that just bought and installed other anti virus programs to uninstall and switch to eset.

I've installed eset smart security (nod32 with firewall) on about 10 pcs.
Never got any virus in the last years. However, you'll need to set it up properly if you don't want it to block almost anything.

Best paid one is: Kaspersky Internet Security 2013
Best free one is: avast! Free Antivirus 2013

Trust me, I used to run a review website promoting antiviruses as affiliate. :)

Talking about free antivirus, any toughs about windows defender in windows 8?
