Where's the missing dollar?

(-49)+(-49)= (-98) debt
(-98) +1 = (-97) cost of shoes


(-98) - actual debt
+
(-2) - money you gave them
=
(-100) total debt when you borrow 100$
+1 they let you kept
=
(-99) total debt after they let you keep 1$

Nothing is missing, your calculations are incorrect;)

Hmm.. the missing dollar IS the dollar I kept. Its all still part of the parents money. Theres a glitch in the reverse engineering system somehow
 
The parents already gave you the $1 as part of the original $100, they can't give it to you again.

if they really are going to give you the $1, then you will only owe them $99 total. Therefore the $1 not missing.

Am I right?
 
Lets start from begening.
(-50$) from mother, (-50$) from father, (-100) total. No matter what i bought and for how much. It dont have influence on my debt.


(-100$) debt
They reduce your "real" debt to (-99$) by letting you keep one buck 1 buck so your real&total debt is (-99$) = (-49.5 per person)
You give them back 1 dolar each so your debt is (-48.5) per person total (-97)

Its similar to situation in bank. You borrow from your acc in bank 100$ (lets say your start ballance is 0). After you borrow your ballance is (-100$), Than bank says, hey today we give 1$ to every customer, your ballance is (-99$) and you have to give back to bank 99$, not 100$.

If I kept the $1 for my self, it means I have spent (technically) $98 in total so I owe them $98. All checks out and there's no missing dollar.

Adding the $1 to $98 would mean I have already given them that $1 when the opposite is actually true.

Actually, you used 48.50 of each one (97 in total). You got 3 back, one for your dad, one for your mom and the one they let you have (3 in total). there you go

There is no missing dollar, and if you just change the price of the shoes it's pretty easy to see. Let's say the shoes only cost $20. For some reason the parents still lend $50 each, and you still only return $1 to each of them. So after buying the $20 shoes you're left with $80. You pay each parent $1. That leaves you with $78. If we wrote the equation the same way it would read something like:

$49(debt) + $49(debt) +$78(money gained) = $176. Where the shit did the extra $76 come from? I think this should be a new method!

1. Borrow $50 from two people.
2. Buy some cheap shoes.
3. Gain infinity money.
4. Rinse/repeat!
 
Your parents are jerks by "letting you keep" the $1 without saying what that means, and you're dumb for not asking. Maybe it's a bribe to not throw them into a retirement home for doing this kind of bullsh.....

i^2 = (√-1)^2
(√-1)^2 = (√-1)*(√-1)
(√-1)*(√-1) != (√(-1)(-1))

It's been a while since I've done complex mathematics, but pretty sure that's your mistake, I'll leave the mystery in why...

Think this way : You used $48.5 each of your parents money to buy shoe. And you returned $1 to each($2 just keep it as tips to employee in shoe shop) .. So you used $49.5 of your dad and mom's Money...

So its $99 used and you keep $1 with you - $100

I think. i'm right.. ;)
