I am wondering where the line is between a blackhat and a criminal. Where do you guys draw the line? When does BH turn into fraud?

Don't get me wrong, I have no qualms about gaming the SE's or selling some shitty ebook or whatever but where's the line? Is BH = illegal or is BH creative promotion?

right inbetween the law book and the just breaking the TOS of a site

its more about morals than the line

That's what I mean. When does it become immoral?

it varies from individual to individual.
this is one of the toughest aspects of bh that is answering your conscience.

well you dont show porn to people under 18
you dont put kiddy porn on
you dont spam people with threats

if you dont damage or harm anyone or anything then its okay i feel

Depends on the person. Some people think cookie stuffing is immoral, while some of us think it isn't and are making damn good money from it.

Only you can define what is or is not moral for you. It's different for every one of us. Adaware makes people alot of money but I personally detest it and would not engage in such activity. You will have to decide for yourself what you are comfortable with and which lines you will or wont cross.

Well, all I know for sure is that if you trick a person to actually spend cash and they get nothing in return (but you benefit) that's pretty much robbing.

I wonder when people will stop asking this question (answered a million times, and it's quite obvious) and go make some more/ or start... making money online. We are all Blackhats, everyone on Earth that is, trying to get by and get the best bang for the buck, this is just an organized community to get that done. Blackhat is not a brand, it's more of a metaphor... if you want to see something illegal go somewhere illegal, does this forum look like it condones anything illegal? You draw your own line. It's like trying to explain whether someone is qualified to be "cool" or not, "cool" is not a brand...

If it can land you in court and get you convicted = criminal

Everything else is ok as long as your own moral and ethics tells you so.

I guess it has been asked in one way or another many times before but I'm not asking for a definition of BH, I'm asking where people draw the line.

As far as I can see this forum does appear to condone illegal activity. Perhaps that's my interpretation of what I see rather than what's going on but it's also why I ask where the line is, in people's opinions. I think I have my answer. :)

Actually, this forum DOES condone illegal activity. Cakeslice and Secretsubmit are just two examples of sending totally fraud leads to merchant. Sending fraud leads to a merchant is illegal. Merchants rarely (if ever) legally pursue affiliates who do this, but the act itself is still illegal.

If you aren't comfortable with methods, ideas and techniques discussed here take your self righteous ass somwhere else. The forum does not condone any illegal activity. It's a forum. People discuss ideas on how to make money using the internet. Everyone gets to choose for themselves what they do or do not want to experiment with.

Law and moral are two different things. The line is subjetive.

I'd say don't fraud/scam the end customers. Or the affiliate networks, actually. I like to sell real products and have whoever gives me money (whether end customers or an affiliate network) be happy that they did.

Although, using "tricky" ways to advertise said products, I'm quite OK with that!

The line is pretty much where ever the hell you want it to be

I know i get many shit from ppl here by say this. BH if doing CS of coz is not rite to me. Imagine giving a share of pie to ppl who does not promote for u, yet steal part of ur profits.
BUT, if u doing BH seo, that is diff story, as it does not steal anyone profits, only it is a creative n fast way of ranking, indexing ur sites.
To me CS is stealing, not creative. Sorry this is my understanding of thing in BH between profits stealing n BH seo.

I don't believe the discussion here was whether or not anyone was comfortable with BH, but whether or not certain aspects of BHing were illegal.

I think you get arrrested for one and not for the other :P
