I expect it to work like Skype and Windows 10: just barely, and sometimes not at all.

Give it 12 months.

Seems like an interesting move by Microsoft. Might just be doing it to stay relevant in social media or to force Microsoft apps on people. Wont know till the bomb hits...

@alwaysinvisible do you have an alternative for Linkedin? I know a couple networks that cloned the Linkedin services, but none has been very successful at it.

I actually do not. I avoid social media like the plague. I'm actually wondering if this buyout will inspire someone else to start a major social network for business professionals. You know how when companies get bought out they start losing members and people just go somewhere else bc the new owners ruin the experience? I'm waiting for that to happen with LI.

I'm not surprised they bought it though. Microsoft wants to market their products to business people. Buy LinkedIn, where all professionals gather, throw up some ads and watch the money roll in.

I hope they don't screw up one of the best set up money making sites ever created. I've always respected LinkedIn for actually creating a service that is needed and being profitable

I find it funny how people think that these big acquisitions is similar to buying a site from flippa and is all about changing the logo, about us and privacy policy pages to reflect the new owner...

Microsoft have zero positive track record in making social experience work. they will no doubt try and introduce a subscription model, with pop ups demanding you upgrade to windows 10, and cloud office. it will be great!!!!!!

Agree if I am not wrong this is their first major acquisition in terms of social B2B platform..all the other major players have acquired social platforms so it's a bold move.

@rob1977 I think Microsoft might go with a paid model for Linkedin, forcing the free model downright annoying for professionals like us. But I agree with @alwaysinvisible it's possibly going to have more ads in the future, which will ruin user experience. Plus, don't forget about huge data that Microsoft can accesses with just a click of the mouse.

I remember when I brought GTA for my PC I was forced to sign into windows Live. I think it will be a lot like that.
