Where's best for Programmer

Hi, I'm a computer programmer looking to make some money.

Where would be best/easiest to get a job online for making software for clients?? I've looked at freelancer, but they seem like they have way too much competition and people are always offering like $30 for a months work.

It depends on the programming level you have! If you can make very good bots you can create some bots and then sell them to forums!
Things like account creators-scrapers etc.etc.
Do a little research on what people wants and see!

I'd prefer to be hired for a specific job than to make bots and sell them. So i want someone to pay me for the creation of the bot then they can sell etc if they wanted.

And my programming level is good

Then if you want to have "bot creation services" you can create a website and then some sales thread on forums online

Do you already have a day job as a programmer? I've found that the benefits of having a day job outweigh the cons.

Another option would be to create a bot for registering.. gmail accounts, let's say. Sell the bot, sell the accounts, get $.

Checkout freelancing section, it's a good start. Build a loyal customer base and you'll never run out of work.

You can check out odesk as well. They have test there you can take that prove your level of programming. The higher the level, the more you can make (per hour or per job). Also as your qualification increases the level of competition decreases.

Don't bother with sites like oDesk and freelancer. The only thing they achieve is devaluing our profession. It's one thing making bots for people on forums at a lower cost to help the community, but having to bid low to gain a shitty project when you're against a fuck ton of third world developers is a pretty shit way to make a living.

The best thing you can do is browse forums, look at how people are trying to earn money online and then create and sell them tools to make their lives easier. Look for problems-> create a solution -> capitalize on it $$$. Be innovative.

It depends on how experienced you are. Have you ever tried freelancing? It may seem intimidating. Do your research, don't just look at one job, look into everything. Take a look at what everybody has to offer and what applies best for you. Your gonna want to focus in the area your strongest. For example, if you are strongest in php or html, you might want to look for jobs for web design. Again, it all depends on how experienced you are and what language you are most proficient.

Can't agree more with you there. I have been on oDesk and Elance have won several jobs and made a fair money. However, competition is huge and whenever you see an indian bidding you can be sure it will be a low bid and hard to dispute even if their quality sucks lots of people tend to go for the cheapest.

I have a rl work and take jobs on Elance (used to use oDesk but its terrible) just as a hobby for some extra incoming while I am developing my own solutions that I will be soon releasing which in my opnion like Chris said is the best option, look around, research and find something worth doing or worth making better and you will get your share!

In regards job sites what I do ? I will bid whatever price I evaluate that is the right price for the job in question considering my skills regardless what others bid.

I know my quality, know my guarantees and all my clients also know about it too and the feedbacks you award from them is the living proof that backs up your pricing.

If you really want to work on oDesk/Elance mainly, I will recommend you to start with cheap prices (that you can afford ofc) just to build up some feedback, make sure your profile is really well done and describe what you do.

After that it is all about being able to make good proposals to stand out, try not using default ones, if you can make proposal for each specific job it is more likely you will get that job rather then using a default "Hey I can do it one".

Use oDesk only for hourly jobs as you have guarantees to get paid and Elance for all kind of jobs.
