I'm really stuck in a rut, I've been reading this forum on/off for a while now but a bit overwhelmed by the different terminology and methods discussed.

A bit of background about me and where I'm at....

I've had an interest in the internet and coding for about 20 years, but never made a £1 doing so. I can repurpose html themes, register domains, upload to server, etc, to get a site live. I can make working applications with asp, php, reading/writing to databases, etc. I've experimented with scraping data with python/selenium/beautifulsoup. I'm also reasonably proficient with client side css, javascript, etc. Usually, I can create a script/solution to solve a problem using a suitable language/platform. While my skills are adequate for me, dont think I have the level of experience to get a full time job in this field, more of a hobby coder.

So I think I can get something published, but really struggling with is the basic concepts of how the use the various social 'channels' to funnel traffic through to the offer (affiliate, cpa, etc).

I'm not asking for a specidic method, but asking maybe for some advice where I should start off to dip my toe in IM. Some sort of follow along basic concept. I've thought about starting with an affiliate site with ** number of articles, but not sure on how to use the placement of affiliate links within the site, such as banners, or perhaps product reviews with scraped live pricing from Amazon, with an affiliate link. Is this a viable option to start off with, and scalable. Or are there other revenue streams more rewarding I could try with current skillset.

I'm also unsure on how to generate traffic via social networks, and get followers, etc. I've read posts about other people creating 100's of social accounts, but again dont understand the purpose of this?

Appreciate your time for reading, and welcome and good advice or criticism on the post, etc.

Many thanks, J

Hello & Welcome to the BHW forum!

Welcome to the forums. I would pick one area you want to work in. Social media is good for short term/long term. Blog type sites are good for long term. figure out if you want to make money short term or long term. Read some im journeys to get an idea what sounds interesting to you.

You have good good skills. Even as a freelancer you can earn a lot.
Exactly, if I were you, I would focus on launching a career as a software engineer.

If you are still young, maybe you can start with an internship so you can work in a "professional" environment and get a feeling of how it is before you start applying for jobs.

You would make a lot more money this way, especially if you are in a country where developers are paid well.

Start with a blog. Even if you are promoting other services, you will need a blog in most cases. So this skill is going to be useful in all cases.

Some great responses, thank you for taking time to reply.

I already have a full time job, so looking to earn an extra income on the side.

I've been thinking of a couple blog ideas, so will start there in 2024 and see how that goes
