Where to learn how to play a guitar?

If you are a total beginner, I suggest that you take lessons from
a guitar teacher in your area for at least a year. You can check
your local music stores and inquire. Most music stores have
one or more guitar teachers on board.

After you have a year's worth of lessons under your belt, then
you can start looking around on Youtube and pick up some
more advanced tips. Also, see if you can find some friends
to play with. You would be surprised how fast you will learn
when you are playing with other musicians. Very inspiring. :)

Enjoy your journey and keep learning & playing. :)

Thanks! I'm taking lessons in November, but i bought the guitar, a few picks and a tuner already. I just want a headstart since i've about a few days to spare.

Lessons are a good suggestion, but are not mandatory. I've never taken a formal lesson in my life.

Get this program: http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php

You can find just about every song ever written in guitar pro format, it will show you the notes and the tablature for the song in realtime. You'll be playing with the pros in no time.

Good luck!

pick up a guns and roses record and acdc record and bang your head till you feel the groove.

Haven't heard about justin guitar? It is a step by step guide. Yow will not only lean guitar but also music.
I am a learner myself.

Keep Rocking :)

Don't bother, take a notice from The Axis of Awesome - to play any popular song today, all you need to know is how to play 4 chords.

Learn the C, F, G, Am scale and chords. Play around with them for a week. Play them until you understand how to make asong with them. Don't pay a penny till you can (or G, C, D, Em or A, D E, Fm) learn a basic scale, the basic chords and come ask again.

I suggest taking a course with a guitar teacher for 6months/1year and then you can play by yourself

waste of money, especially when you already pay for internet. I would honestly just listen to all your favorite records and want to play them, feel it. Don't just learn from some old twat on youtube who never made it in a band of his own. All the greats played cause THEY wanted to.

I think you should first learn the basics by yourself then find a teacher whi can teach you advanced skills.
