Lets say I were to build a basic blog on either WP or Blogger. I write my own original content, maybe grab some elsewhere and spin it, throw some juicy keywords in there, and really key into a certain niche. Then I decided I need my own unique domain name and private host. How would you suggest going about this. Looking for a bit of advice as a newbie. I see that some sites such as godaddy offer a free domain with a cheap hosting plan. I also see that you can buy domains cheapy and then also host unlimited domains cheapy. That also seems desirable. Pay X dollars a month for hosting, and then every domain name I purchase can be hosted under that same contract. Any way to obtain free domains? Any advice is definitely helpful!

You can go for the godaddy option to start with.

It depends whether you'll run your blog for long term or not

If you are planning to run your blog for long time, then getting free domain from webhost with them you are going to deal, is not good idea. As, most of the webhost only offer free domain whenever you are using their hosting services. If you switch another company for hosting services then you will have to pay for domain registration. And this condition their domain registration price will be very high.

So, I want to suggest, Purchase domain from another domain registrar and host it on another webhost, to secure yourself for any problem in future.

I've seen a lot of people promoting hostgator. I personally use a shared account at powweb.

Domain : Namecheap or Internet.bs.

Hosting : Hostgator or Webhostinghub.com.

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT buy hosting from Godaddy, by all means buy a domain there as their domains are cheap, but buy hosting elsewhere. I made the mistake of getting hosting from Godaddy and it is horrifically slow, to the point people will think your site doesn't even exist because it takes so long to load. I got a refund for hosting and went to host gator just the smallest package and I absolutely love it. It is fast, reliable, great features and super fast support!

buy ftom v2hosters cheap and best
free google adwords coupons also

I purchased my new domain name yesterday.. (been purchasing a lot of domains this week :D).

Anyways I used Name.com to purchase my domain (I usually use namecheap.com).. but I just chose Hostgator since I have used them before and they are extremely reliable and have wicked 24/7 customer support which I love. ;)

Here's a code I used to get my first month for 1 cent:

Thank you for all your help everyone! What should I expect to pay for a domain name straight up? Like 1-5 bucks? HostGator seems to have great following, and their "baby" package looks awesome! Unlimited Domains? Does that mean I can really host as many domains as I want for what 7 bucks a month?

Well I got a discount on a domain at Godaddy, and it cost 15 dollars, but that included private registration, so my information isn't listed publicly. And that was for a year, not bad for .com, they're might be better deals out there I don't know. And yeah it means you can use as many domains as you want, but obviously each of those domains you will have to pay to register.

If I were you, I would go for getting my own domain. No doubt, getting a blog on blogger is much easier than on your own domain.
But other side of scenario is far better... You have all the control of your blog. You can introduce any change anytime on your blog. Hosting blog on own domain is much flexible than hosting it on some other platform.

Cant go wrong with hostgator.

Their online chat customer support is always ready to guide you and show you where to watch videos etc.

User this coupon to get $9.95 of your first hosting pacakge.

Just wanted to reinforce the fact that Godaddy hosting is awful. I had it for a client several years ago (can't remember why) and it was pathetic. Slow, frequently down, etc. Piss poor support to top things off

Hey,

Well I started out with namecheap and 000webhost (free hosting) until they deleted my account for no reason.

I now use Hostgator as they are pretty reliable and cheap.

Shared hosting for WP i recommend Dreamhost,Bluehost and Hostgator.
Hostwinds has low price which includes domain privacy and you can get dedi IP if you want.
Fliphost is not saturated, cheap ideal for some small projects.
