Quick background: Mid 20's and have a successful day job as an ops engineer at a large Seattle based cloud hosting company. I would say I'm a decent Linux SysEng and extremely intelligent/mature for my age. I'm very interested in the back-end and picking up Python quickly now.

I've designed plenty of sites, write content, etc.. I would like to find something to do where I can put my skills and money to use. Something that I'll have fun doing and learning how to program more in Python with. Ideally I think I would like to hookup with someone in my area and see what we can do together.

I don't like taking shortcuts with silly blogs I've found over the years, a crappy site/product will get you nowhere. If you were me with my skillset and extra money, what would you do to put it to use outside of the day job?

I may send you a message, ideally if I hooked up with someone I would prefer them to be somewhat local for several reasons. Can anyone think of some beginner projects I could play around with and even maybe make a buck or two by using Python?
