Isn't that just for the first year?

    After that you start paying-
    But only 2.99 a year I think...

Please correct me if I am wrong-

I had my order set up at namecheap.com until i scrolled down a little more and read this post.

needless to say now i own a new domain from name.com

I noticed that although they have free whois, you cant have free hosting + free whois.

IMO for basic websites where whois doesnt matter i recommend godaddy. cheap + free hosting. ended up like 8 and change for this. they even have a nice little script now to remove the ads off the godaddy economy hosting (gonna have to google it i forgot it offhand, but i use it currently)

Name.com All the way! I'm moving every domain to them away from namecheap and I have Gold pricing with namecheap. Name.com has awesome features and only getting better.

Without a doubt, name.com. They offer free private whois and are extremely user friendly.

I've been with NameCheap for over 2 years now. A+ and if you search RetailMeNot, you can gets domains for like $8-$9 each.

If anyone is partial to godaddy, you get free privacy reg if you buy 6 domains at once. It's only for the first year, though.

I just noticed that 1and1 is offering 6.99 with free privacy reg. They also have 3.99 mo hosting. I'm not familiar with their service but it is cheap.
