I've been doing SEO a long time for a handful of close clients, but money problems are forcing me to look for extra income.

Where are some good places to find SEO clients? I'm not super high-end, I only charge between $200-$600 per month usually. Is eLance and Freelancer the best? Or are there other places I can find clients from that are better? I need a couple clients fast! Hurting for cash....

Thx

Start doing local searches for companies who utilize the internet. Plumbrers, locksmiths, HVAC .... and then hop on the phone and solicit business.

Yes, I would agree, most of the business for SEO are those local small business that are not on internet yet or don't have much presence there.

Search your local market. Just yesterday I walked to a street where there's like 20 computer techs in one block. I asked if one of them was interesting in improving his site rank, he immediately asked for my contact and wanted to discuss a plan.

So local cold calling, and emailing is the way to go? Any idea what types of businesses tend to want SEO most... realtors etc?

you should check out the offline marketing section on this site, as it has alot of useful information on how to get clients and how to approach them. You wont regret it

Do you know what kind of SEO consultant you are? A bit of keyword research, fix up their Web pages, throw in a few links? Or are you good at doing the strategy documents, helping the client to understand what they're doing, making the simple stuff look good?

If you're more like the former then I'd go after smaller local clients. If the latter, maybe consider doing whitelabel work. At your prices you could get good business working for overworked SEOs and agencies.

Local small firms, restaurants, hotels, lawyers, dentists, you can target almost any kind of business or even individuals offering services.

I've done both, but I do more of the deeper stuff. I usually build a mini-PBN and link around that while boosting their social's like G+, and FB. Which you're right, is actually a lot for the money. But it pays off because I keep clients a long time. But now I need more, and it sucks doing sales.

The idea of a BST isn't bad and I hadn't considered it... anybody here ever done it for bigger services, does it typically do well?

Search for companies who are buying adwords or present in local directories but absent in SERPS.

Maybe you could do SEO to get clients? Always makes me a bit leery when I see "SEO experts" posting how they can get more traffic and clients. That's kind of what you do.

Pretty much don't be lazy and pound the local businesses in your area. Don't be afraid of cold calls and rejection. It's going to happen. But if each client is worth a few hundred to a thousand dollars then it's worth your time.
