    Hey BHW,

I'm ramping up my marketing efforts to focus on selling websites to local businesses (dentists, doctors, lawyers, etc.)

Mainly to generate some quick sums of cash but also for the possibility of retaining recurring clients for seo, etc.

Where do you find your best WordPress themes for local business? I checked out themeforest because its been mentioned on here many times and they seem to have some pretty decent designs. Do you have any other recommendations?

    Thanks,

    - Atlas

I've bought a number of themes from Themeforest and had differing experiences.

The trouble is with buying any theme is that any vendor makes the theme look great but it's hard to know how easy it is to run and work with.

I often tend to look at Sales, Ratings, New themes. Then the activity of comments, how fast those are responded to etc.

Throw in a 'left of centre' search term etc to see what you may find.

Many of the corporate themes which I'm sure you are looking at are all a bit 'samey' which for local businesses I think will be OK for now but I think they are so 'samey' that the difference will wear off within a year or so.

For me really high quality shortcodes are important. Many themes promise good shortcodes but frankly most are rubbish. If the extent of their shortcodes are to offer a dropcap, and columns just walk away.

The best theme I'm using for shortcodes on TF is Metro Style - they are brilliant. Trouble is the styling of the theme isn't the greatest (but works for the site I have). The less time I need to spend trying to format anything the better!!

I think you may need to change your business premise a bit. You don't need to just 'knock em out cheap' (para phrasing). I know a few people who have paid circa £12k for WP sites.

Include a good graphic designer into the proposition and that typical corporate WP site can look different and stand the test of time a bit more.

Understand whether or not the site will be brochure wear or a bit more. Really important for my dentist was a booking facility, plus lots of info re teeth related stuff etc.

No point being cheap. If that's where you peg yourself you won't get away from that cheap price.

Provide a basic site for £5 - £15k with extras and people will stick with you. Plus a retainer of course.

Just my 2p worth anyhow - feel free to ignore me :)

Ive been looking for themes for local businesses as well... theme forest is a good place to start. Some themes come with the option of importing the original settings so that it looks like how it was advertised. Then I just edit accordingly. Also warrior forum has a few good local business themes.

    Ignite,

great advice, i wouldn't mind a few larger projects but my main goal is primarily to crank out $500 - $1000 sites that can be streamlined and built quickly and easily.

My target is the non-tech savvy business owner that needs a quick site mainly for informational purposes and some lead gen.

Simple Website: Home Page, About Us, Services, Testimonials, Contact Us. With maybe some social media integration.

You are none of these out there that I have been able to find.

I am trying to have one made but quotes are 300 t0 3000 so that is on hold unless someone wants to JV.

I have looked at hundreds of them, they are built by people who know nothing about SEO.

Right now I am trying to build it on headway framework.

I was just checking wpmu a few hours ago and it looked pretty awesome. They have a pretty nice selection of themes and some of them are specifically titled "for local businesses." I thought they looked pretty sweet. They also have a lot of premium plugins, I thought the ecommerce one was nice.
