Where To Begin

I've known about this site for a few years and stumbled across it every once in a while when it shows up as a search result. The sites that I've created or want to create mostly wouldn't be able to use black hat techniques effectively but I'm seeing now that the ideas talked about on this site are good to know even if they're not implemented.

I'd be curious to hear some opinions on the ethics behind black hat techniques and what people think of implementing them on a moral level. I mean, we've all come across horrible google search results and thought, "I wish there wasn't so much spam on the Internet", right? I'm all for making money in a legal but borderline way but I don't know how I would feel about contributing to the problem.

So, inb4 a bunch of "use the search" feature posts and sorry for the noob question. But can anybody point me in a good direction to start learning this stuff? Like, super noob basic terminology stuff. Also, anyone have experience working for others as like a VA and then branching off to your own projects? I would definitely be open to working for people here if possible.

You don't want to hear it, but reading through the forums really is the best way to learn. Everything i know and learned has come from hours of reading since 2013, and im still miles off being any sort of expert. But i am earning well.

Yeah go into Money Making section and read all the sticky posts. Its a lot of reading but its interesting and I think its best place where to start. Happy lurking

Is there a glossary here? Wasn't one that I could find. I use to be active on some poker forums and the poker lingo became second nature after awhile but on the forums here I have no idea what some people are saying.

As stated above it's always a good idea to gather information, but, also remember it is extremely important to start implementing some of the info into projects. Small projects at first, some things you feel comfortable with maybe and even if you don't get the best results still gain and gather information from the experience...GOOD OR BAD...We can learn from them both.

Make a plan and dedicate some time to read through forum posts. Don't expect returns in first few days. Those with such expectations feel completely failed after trying for few days. Patience will play an important role to your failure or success.

And thanks everyone else for the warm welcome. There's just so many options and ways you can take this that it can be kind of overwhelming.

What I wanted to say,already said by above people,but I too suggest you to read many blogs related to money making and try everything and ask here.

I'm in a unique situation in that I'm living abroad and pretty broke. I came here to Brazil with a few months living expenses and knew that it would be hard, as I've already lived here before. I decided not to teach English classes like I was doing before and instead take advantage of the 4 to 1 exchange rate and find work online. I didn't think it would take more than two months though to find something that pays decently.

One of these threads gave me a good reminded that to make money you have to spend money and for now I don't have any. I've been studying and doing some copywriting and content writing on iwriter. Terrible pay but better than some of the content writing I was doing from contracts on Upwork.

But for now it looks like I'll just keep learning the concepts I can find here and search for work until I have the money to invest in something bigger.

Read through money making forum section, read 50-100 threads and apply something you like the most

This industry is so expansive no member is going to be able to point you in a particular winning direction. IM journeys can give you experience from average people trying to make money online. I would start there and then research any task they are doing.

There is a lot of confusion between personal morality, business ethics, black hat techniques and criminal behavior.

For many people, they think that all of these are one and the same.

Absolutely wrong.

Just because something is unethical business-wise, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is illegal or even black hat.

By the same token, something moral doesn't necessarily mean black hat.

Do you see where I'm coming from?

So let's not get our wires crossed.

The best approach would be to simply ask yourself, "if somebody did this to me, would I be happy?"

If your answer is yes, then by all means, check with your local laws and make arrangements accordingly.

I think that most Black Hat methods are actually moral enough as long as you are not scamming any consumers. If you are doing things right, your result in Google is going to be helpful to people and you are going to earn money because people will be convinced that the product you're promoting is worth their cash. I see nothing wrong with that. Google is not a 100% just entity for you to have moral holdups about playing their algorithm. Your job is to get traffic and to earn money, their job is to provide valuable results. No morality says that you have to worry about them providing good results, because it's their job and they are making more than enough of a profit for people to expect them to do it well and when they don't manage to do so, it's not you to blame, it's them.

So as long as you are not stealing from the end consumer, I think most black hat methods are not necessarily immoral. Of course, something I wouldn't like doing for instance is generating fake clicks on AdSense, because Google would still be making money and the advertisers will be the ones that are going to foot the bill both for my earnings and for Google's profit. So that's not something I call moral, but morality is subjective after all and all your biggest competitors would not really care anyway.

Sorry for the ramblings. Anyway, to summarize my point - don't write off all black hat methods as immoral and just determine your approach on a method by method basis.
