Anyways, are there any good tips on where to advertise your forum and what is the best way?

From my opinion you can create a FB Page about your forum and get the targeted audience.
Another option is create a squidoo lens describing your forum so that you will get some visitors.

Just get content and seo that shit, have the forum on the side and you are done

Social! Or if your forum has something interesting for affiliates. Contact some high end affiliates. Or be active on similar forums and siphon them to yours.
