Where should I start?

I am completely new to google SEO, I can rank videos in YouTube, just have never tried google.

I know the basic understanding of it such as creating backlinks, articles, social bookmarking but I don't actually know how to do it. I have multiple sites ready That I would love to rank...

First of all, if my site is video game related, where can I start creating backlinks? Finding places to put them is where I am struggling. thanks

For Tier 1
Create articles to sites like wordpress.com, blogger.com (web 2.0) sites.

For Tier 2
(This is where I get confused as well, someone can correct me if I am wrong)
Press Release Sites
Article Directories
Guest Blogging
PDF sharing sites
Wiki's Links
Image Sharing Sites (Pinterest comes to my mind)

Tier 3
Blog comments
forum profiles

Basically it would look like this
Mainsite Links <------ Tier 1 Links <------ Tier 2 Links <-------Tier 3 Links

I am also in the gaming niche btw for my main blog. I also can suggest to start setting up Twitter, Facebook, Google + Accounts and start sharing your main articles on them as well

Submitting links to reddit helps a well.

What do tiers mean? I tried to google, couldnt find a good answer. Also how do I find blogs to create backlinks on? just google different blogs and find ones with the highest PR and put my backlink on it? What does web 2.0 mean? hah

And articles you mean like 500 words+ right?
