There is no missing dollar. Each of has $1 and thats how many dollars there are.
There is no reason for you to add up how much you owe....thats the amount you owe, not the amount of dollars you have.

As you kept $1 for urself so the effective cost contribution of t-shirt for your mom and dad is $49 (97+1)/2 and and afterwards u gave $1 back to them which make it $49+1= $50 so there is no $ left.

lol, made some few $$$ with it when i saw that first.
Showed them the question,lock the answer with FB like locker, and than send them to the answer page stuffed with IQ PIN submits. Made about $3-400 in a few weeks

There is no other dollar, or rather, it is in the shirt. The 48+48=98 spiel is irrelevant and used to misdirect the reader. While you borrowed $50 from each parent, you only spent $48.50 of each loan. After giving them each a dollar, you still have the two 50 cents for yourself.
