When buying a domain you also need to get WHOIS privacy, which you can select on the order page. You can get the domain from any domain registrar such as godaddy or namecheap. There is also an option to select if you want the domain to auto-renew as well in the domains list page and/or order page.

I recommend you Namecheap and you can easily turn ON the Auto Renew feature for a domain or your WhoisGuard subscription. for auto renewals, we'll attempt to charge your Namecheap account balance first. But please remind the system will attempt to renew your domain 30 days prior to its expiration.

they buy the domain for you and let you use it. they are the actual owners, but you can transfer or do anything with it.

Check out shockhosting.net. Another user on here pointed it out to me, I LOVE THEM so far. You can register a .com for $9.99/year, they don't make a habit of increasing the cost when you renew, and whois privacy is just $1.99/yr extra. Their shared hosting plans are like $2.99/mo right now ($2.55/mo if you pay for a year up front) and again they do not generally increase your rate when your term renews (unlike... every other freaking host I have ever used.)

Don't pay extra for WHOIS privacy. Use Namecheap or Porkbun to get it for free. I prefer Porkbun for its free SSL for all years.

Shockhosting has free ssl too (frankly a lot of companies do nowadays.) And free dedicated IP. I am 99% sure namecheap is one of the ones that gave me a domain real cheap when registering, then increased the price steadily as I renewed annually each year.

Here is one report of others saying this happened (and also stating that they added in charges for the whois privacy later as well.)


Shockhosting literally says on their website they do not increase renewal fees on hosting or domains unless absolutely necessary.

Just my two cents though.
