Just like how we have multiple bank accounts.
They probably have lots of devices to dilute the amounts around.

Personally I’d think with an exchange but perhaps they’ve got a direct relationship like the exchange will manage and guarantee it’s safety.
A bit like you get a personal bank manager in a traditional bank if you are a big player.

Safety is assured by using a multi signature wallet. That way you can't move coins without the approval of multiple members

Tesla havent confirmed it as far as Im aware but its safe to assume that as Michael Sawyer shared his playbook with them they went the Coinbase Custody route as well.
