Do you post on oDesk and get them to add you on Skype? I am trying this now, I only got 3 applies for the job I posted meanwhile I paid $5 to post on Freelancer.com and got over 45 bids on my project. If I have many small projects, I hate paying $5 every time, that can add up. I try to contact the same person again if I have a similar job but if the job is completely different, I must pay another $5, etc.

What do you guys do? Do you have certain places for certain jobs?

Regards

I've noticed that there's a hireafreelancer section in this forum. But I haven't used it yet so I can't review it.

Freelancer.com or Odesk.com and just find a good worker and add them to your skype and go back to them if you have other new projects to do . At freelancer .com you make new account and post a trial projects and no payment.

I never used it. I don't want to include my opinions on it here. I was hoping more of a discussion about were you get your freelancers, not where you never tried to get a freelancer.

i know you said you're not curious about where we never tried and however i never tried from this POV, but some of us here tend to say fiverr recently (look for sellers with a bunch of positive feedbacks) and other ones say they have very bad experience with fiverr workers...i let you decide, nevertheless it's another place you can try

try limeexchange. the services are pretty cheap but the quality might leave something to be desired:o. that said, you could try several guys out see how it goes and find someone who could best satisfy you as you seem to have a longer term relationship in mind.

odesk every time. I've been using them alooong time. I used to use Elance, but it seems there are too many companies now. I just add them on skype, gchat, etc.

I make sure to interview well, and most providers will even do a test run for free to show you they can do it. I have the best luck with Philippinos because they seems to speak English really well.

For hiring odesk and fiverr - A lot of marketers use odesk and so the starting bids of jobs are low which means that your project at a low price doesn't stand out and will get plenty of workers bidding..

For getting work as a freelancer yourself Elance I've found to be the best. The project prices start higher so other freelancer tend to bid around and slightly under the price.

Fiverr is obviously good because all you pay is 5 bucks but you can end up with crap as well so just like all the sites it's about sorting the wheat from the chaff..

I always test them first - article writers I pick 3 or 5 to do 1 article and pick the best from those. Another tip is to setup an interview over skype but do it at a set time the next day. This will show how punctual and reliable a worker is if nothing else. You'll be surprized how many don't show up

In terms of countries -
article writers - philippino, native english speaking countries ie uk, us, aus etc
software programming engineers - the russians
graphic designers - non native speaking countries are ok but if you have a set idea about how something should be, go with native english speaking designers as they understand you better - I count philippinos in that croud as well because a lot of them are fluent in english.

I won't knock indian bangladesh workers because some are excellent for general site building but DON'T HIRE THEM as article writers unless you fancy re-writing a re-write..

As with all these suggestions there are exceptions as you could find a genius in any country but those are some general guidelines
