I need these often but subscriptions are pricey, any recommendations?

Try http www sxc hu

Thanks but there is not enough variety there, for instance I just searched for something I need and they have no good options (except the ones above that redirect you to iStock)

Hi!

I think a top-notch search engine can help you with a single click :)

  1. Use Google images
  2. Click on the Options (wheel icon) on the right top
  3. Select Advance Search option from the drop-down menu
  4. Under the Find Pages With... <input your keywords/whatever images you need to see>
  5. In Usage Rights (last option) Select: Free to use, share or modify, even commercially
  6. * Select any other option/s on the page according to your needs (not too important)
  7. Click OK (Advance Search button)
  8. When the search result page is displayed, click on Images on the top horizontal menu so that images are displayed instead of web details.
  9. After you select the image, go to the image related webpage by clicking on the Visit Page button, and follow the instructions on that page to use the image which is free to use with Licensing details (attribution required, etc.). Follow them and use the image. It is the minimum you can do for the image provider in return for using a FREE & high-resolution image made available to you by a kind photographer or uploader.

* not an important step...

Btw,
Code:
http://commons.wikimedia.org
is another great site to look for free images.

What is the odds to get caught if I just use google image search, download the picture I like, upload it to my WordPress and use it?

I tried using the free image bank links above, but it is impossible to find what I am looking for, like a product image.

Then just ask the product maker thru email. I remember I asked @pple for its top line product images to use on my review site, and they actually said I can use them, but I should be careful about everything concerned. I had also asked @maz0n about using the review on their product page, and they too had given me permission in actual sweet words! But that was like 3~4, may be 5 years ago. I don't know if they are regretting about it now, though. lol

I have used to get royalty free images mostly from Google and from sxc.hu sometimes.

inurl:istock -site:istock.com keyword
inurl:shutterstock -site:shutterstock.com keyword

I mostly use Pixabay and morguefiles, also someone posted a free promo code for Fotolia.com a while ago, really high quality photos there.

There's a list somewhere on here with over a hundred free sites.. just use the search function for once

You can find royalty free images on flicker, photorack, freedigitalphotos and even on google using the advanced search option.
