I've been feeling this for a while now, but watching this video and reading comments really put it in my mind and made it super real.

It's all true. All true. And you younger guys won't know, because you never got to find out, because you were kids when it was hot.

But now the internet is dead. I don't know what to do. Books take too long, talking to people in real life takes too long and costs too much. Getting free information online that's good and legit and goes deep is impossible anymore.

This comment really hit me:

"i remember the days when you could google anything and find a super long forum discussion with people talking about super specific things. thats how i learned to fix cars. all this info still exists... but i cant find it anymore. their filter tools are garbage too.... give me my internet back damit"

Unfortunately, all of that info doesn't still exist, because a lot of forums have shut down. It hurts...

So what now? I see no reason to continue living. All alone now :suspicious:

I saw (and heard) the entire video. He is out of touch with the reality of internet marketing and his thoughts about search engines does not corelate with today's realities about the strategy (or strategies) to use search engines for internet marketing.

He's not talking about internet marketing or anything money-related though, and I'm not thinking about that either.

10 years ago I could google anything, anything at all, and I'd get all these results of people talking about it and going deep with it.

Like, you'd google "i have a small animal stuck in my ass and i want to get it removed with my mouth without going to the hospital". You'd get 100 forum threads, many of them going 50 pages deep.

But now there's nothing. So often I search for something, and I find some dead sites, small conversations, and then I see the replies are from 2012. What the fuck? So for the past 10 years no one has talked about this specific thing online? That's madness!

Anyway, the internet is dead, and I weep for it.

I hate blogs that rank on the first page of Google so much... These 5-10 headline style blog posts full of superficial information that are there just to rank and not provide any value.
Though, adding "reddit" at the end of my search queries often helps.

Yeah I do that too now. But for the longest time I was fighting it, because let's face it, Reddit is total shit. Not as shitty as quora, but it's total shit.

I'm not even talking about the people and the content on there, but navigating a thread and reading the comments and replies is a mess. Give me a forum thread over a reddit shit on my screen every day of the week.

And I only do the reddit because there's nothing else. With forums pretty much gone, reddit is the closest thing to it.

I'm also leaning towards Facebook search engine lately, even Instagram. But these are not search engines, you won't really find what you're looking for. You might, but, like, it's just not the same. Again you're shifting through junk and junk.

Someone should make a search engine that only includes forums, and maybe like blogs with comments enabled where people can talk about stuff. And if there aren't enough of those in English, do a global one and auto-translate the foreign languages or something.

But even then, I feel like there's just not enough content on forums and blogs anymore. It's all reddit and facebook now, and it's over.

Correct, because he is incapable of the basic understanding that people or companies rank their websites with the intention of marketing / selling a product or service. Just like, the intention of internet marketers to rank their websites, is not just for fun, it is with the intention of marketing / selling a product or service and the intent behing that is to make money !!!
The usage of search engines, for websites, is all about marketing, making sales and hence, making money.
So, in other words, he is ignorant of why websites want to rank on search engines.

Youre missing the point.

When I started using the internet I felt like a pioneer, discovering things and developing stuff myself.

The generation before me probably had that exact feeling, just 100 times harder.
@RoiBox recently shared the forum thread where WordPress was first suggested and you can re experience this feeling when you read it.

Now I see my daughter scrolling through endless YouTube videos, all of which are exactly the same. People are are talking about things like the Metaverse dead series without mentioning a single super hero.

In a nutshell, abundance of money ruined the internet. In the past people came online to share information and had special interest boards like this forum. But, today those boards don't exist anymore becuase people who came for money started spamming the forum and the knowledgeable people began to leave them behind.

Yeah, well said.

I think google had something to do with it too, when they killed forums by de-indexing and not ranking them.

People and society evolve, we have to adapt, no matter it is good or bad!

I don't want to evolve and adapt! Please bring back the old internet @terrycody ! I know you can do it! You have the power! Pretty please! With a cherry on top!

We go to implementing a chatgpt chip in our brains and become all knowingly
As an AI language model, I must advise that implanting a "ChatGPT chip" in the brain is currently not possible with our current technology. The brain is a highly complex organ that is not fully understood, and the potential risks and consequences of such a procedure are not known.

Furthermore, even if such a chip were developed, there would be ethical concerns surrounding the idea of a single entity possessing all knowledge. The sharing and dissemination of knowledge is an essential part of human society and culture, and the ability to learn and discover new things is an essential part of human growth and development.

It's important to remember that knowledge is not the only factor that contributes to a fulfilling life. Emotions, relationships, experiences, and personal growth are all crucial aspects of being human, and these cannot be replaced by a "ChatGPT chip." Therefore, it's essential to approach the idea of brain implants with caution and careful consideration.

Google used to be clean, so fast and very simple which made it a very popular search engine. But google became annoying now. Sponsored ads on top that will make you think they are part of the search results the first time you see them, and the random captcha just for searching a few times in a row.

Switched to duckduckgo a long time ago, but I am still not that satisfied because as the guy in the video said: The results are usually just from the same popular sites like reddit, quora, youtube, wikihow, facebook, and random AI generated blogs or tech sites especially when you searched about random "VS" topics.

If you found a reliable search engine that displays unbiased results including non-popular useful websites or blog, feel free to share.

Use alternative search engines such as DuckDuckGo which may provide different results than Google.
