Where do we draw the line?

So I'm not any kind of detective or anything, but I noticed something today and I was curious if it's going over the top. I didn't actually do anything, it was just more of an observation. I noticed a thread that caught my eye and while reading it I realized it was a little over a month old. The last comment that bumped it today was a short 1 line "thanks for this" type of response. I noticed the username had been here since Aug 2011 though with only 13 posts. Just seemed odd to me that someone who had been here that long would only have made so few posts and this would be one of them. I forgot about it quickly though and hit the Home tab. That's when I seen his name like 5 times for a bunch of the same related threads, and all of them are very short 1 line responses.

Now again, I'm not a detective, and maybe I'm just a little too bored this morning, but I'm not an idiot either. If the account was created in 2011 and there was like no activity and all of a sudden today you're blasting every thread available with 1 liners to get to 15 I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out he probably bought the account, or acquired it by some other means. In any event, I would be highly suspicious of the user, but there's also legit reasons that someone might just be coming out from under their rock. I don't want to air out someone and look like a fool in doing so, and since I'm not a mod, I don't know how much of my responsibility it even is to do so. I don't say that as any sort of slight, I just don't like "mall cops" lol. On the other hand though, I genuinely appreciate anyone who tries to look out for others in the name of getting rid of any and all scammers, so that's why I pose the question. Should we report stuff like that? I wasn't really sure what, if any, heads up I could give to others without overstepping my bounds here. Have a great day though everyone, even though it is Monday.

Yes, you should report blatant attempts at increasing post counts. If anything looks suspicious, a report doesn't hurt. A mod will check it out, and do what's necessary.

Just report the user/posts and each will be dealt with. Unfortunately here, dealing with each situation is a lot easier than a preventative.

We will stay on top though, just use that report button.

I'm sick of people bumping old threads with vague comments. The ONLY reason to bump an old topic is: a. if it's still relevant today, b. you have new information to add to it. I can't think of a punishment severe enough to give these people

Thanks for the replies guys. The reason I asked is because if everyone went around playing detective I could see it clogging up the mods with just ridiculous amounts of BS, but it looked to me like this was fairly blatant. Just wasn't sure if I should report it as a preventive measure since it's hard to judge someone for something they haven't done yet, but it was more just a nagging feeling I had too so I just wanted to see what a few ppl thought. Wait a minute. When I was a newbie i would often find a thread and comment on it because it interested me before I realized that resurrected the dead.

I have no problem addressing the spam on this forum who behave in the way you have described, but lets keep in mind that people comment in old threads all the time.

Making a comment in an old thread doesn't mean anything except they need to learn to look at the date before wasting everyone's time.

I treat this palace like I do the neighborhood watch, if I see something strange, I report it and let the proper people deal with it. I would have reported this too.

There is nothing on that post that violates what the moderation flag is coming up as (no spam, cussing selling etc), yet I cannot post it.
There is some useful info there, an dif a mod can post it here (c/p), after which I'll kill the blog
