Do you know where they get their content from ? Websites like viralnova or 9gag , I know there is a lot of people who submit their content , But how they get the rest ?
And what is DMCA exactly in these type of websites ?

These websites have millions of users, so you shouldn't under estimate the amount of content people will submit to these sites to hit "front page" etc.
I believe since it's also the users who are publishing the content, they don't get damaged very much by DMCA claims, as long as they remove the content that's been reported.

They simply rehash stories from all around the web, mostly youtube & reddit and use clickbait headlines. Nobody cares about DMCA's since in most cases it's fair use (I'm talking about sites that know what their doing such as viralnova) and nobody bothers them with stuff like that (from my experience).
 
9gag has millions of users, you are bound to have interesting pics submitted. 9gag team then selects and posts :)
 
All of the contents in those websites are submitted by normal user like us.

DMCA is Digital Millennium Copyright Act, I don't really know why it existed in the first place as internet should be for everyone and everyone should be able to use/post anyone's contents as long as you're not making money out of it. It's very disappointed that some contents were taken down via DMCA just because they don't want their contents to be shared freely by people who wanted to share it and by people who use it for educational purpose (even though educational purposes and fair uses should be exempted from the law itself), they should know that once something is online, it will continues to online forever.

You mentioned such websites that already have a huge audience. So , collecting articles is not a fact for them but it is a fact for you . Because if your website is new , you can't find peoples ready to write your content for free. So work hard at first , and if your website become a bit popular then you can also find content for your site.
 
when 9gag and viralnova first started they were copy-pasting reddit pics, at first they did not had even clickbait titles, later on, userbase caught up
 
Mashable and Buzzfeed get their articles from Reddit. And then smaller sites just rehash these articles,ones published by Mashable and Buzzfeed.
 
Normally the users is who post in that websites, latter a mod supervise that and put it on the web
 
But for most content marketers, the biggest problem is creating enough high-quality, engaging material to keep the engine of your content strategy running.
 
9gag has a great mount of users, you are bound to have interesting pictures submitted.
 
They usually hire content curators to put all of the viral material together.
