Hi, I'd like to get competent enough to work as a role as a social media manager, any advice on courses or where to start? Thanks

I recommend that you train under the guidance of people who have proven themselves in this field rather than courses such as udemy. Social media makes even the smallest detail valuable, so if you learn the tricks from proven people, you will have an idea to start. Then you can solve this job by trial and error.

Yeah and where do you expect him to find such people lol?

And if you didn't know then mentoring is not allowed on BHW either.

Which social media platform do you want to master? Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram? Every platform is unique and has its different learning curves.

Even before buying any course on Social media marketing you should get your own hands dirty with the work. Learning any course will only enhance your skills and give some important tips that will help you excel.

The first step of learning the social media marketing is to create social media accounts and start doing activity - posting, resharing, liking, etc. Have you done that so far?

you will need to learn basics of social media marketing b4 going any deeper
 
You can easily find some courses from YouTube. You don't even need to pay for those and you can choose which is best for you. All that you need to learn is basics. After that you will learn by yourself when you encounter the problems and find their solutions.
 
Thank you all for your advice, I was hoping to get competent enough to work for an agency, I've worked in roles just posting but there wasnt a focus at all on increasing metrics over time through analytics or paid ads, so was hoping to get good at that stuff, would be the basic channels like linkedin, twitter, fb, pin, insta, dont know if thats too much of a broad spectrum of channels to try and learn though, what u guys think?
 
First foundation,
Familiarize yourself with the major social media platforms you would be working with, understand how they work, their key features, and the types of audiences they attract.
Start by managing your own social media profiles or helping friends or local businesses with their social media presence.

It's not too much, would be an added advantage if you know all. just get yourself familiar with all and take some courses.

Create multiple accounts on multiple social media platforms.
 
any good udemy course or youtube channel for learn this SMM role
