Where did you learn SEO?

People act all antsy about learning too like they expect to learn everything in a day. I'm not sure if it's laziness, attention deficit disorder, or ignorance but much like learning ANYTHING it takes effort and time. I'm not saying it's "hard" compared to other vocations, but it isn't something you can hurry up and learn in a weekend. Mostly it's cheap and/or arrogant business owners looking to cut out their SEO guy by figuring out SEO themselves who stroll along to BHW and start demanding quick and easy answers.

I learned SEO in 3 ways mainly -
1) Started off with the book "Outsmarting Google". That familiarized me with all the lingo and gave me a very objective, clear understanding of what SEO is.
2) Using ahrefs, seo suite and other tools to extract links from my competitors then copy exactly what they did.
3) Read forums which filled in all the gaps.

I learned seo when I was in LA. I was making a video for a chiropractor. I had no idea how to rank shit. I ran into a editor at the worst dive bar in LA. We talked about making videos and he introduced me to SEO, and said to check out BHW. This video sums it up. Welcome To The Jungle - Live Version -

To be perfectly honest I learnt from SEO blogs at the start, places like source wave and viperchill. It just too hard to grasp everything at BHW, it's not noob friendly. BHW only started being useful for me when I started experimented. GSA forum helps out alot as well.
In all honesty, I learned very little from BHW. The only reason I came to this site was because of an affiliate discount for a piece of software I wanted. I learned most of what I know trawling Russian, Ukrainian, Czechoslovakian, and German sites in their native language with a liberal helping of Google Translate. The rest I picked up from Google by reading articles back to 2002 and determining what was discredited.

Which software? Those are only ebooks/pdf's. You can download them straight from your browser/Firefox

One thing i can't overemphasize is making notes while you are reading threads ( i use evernote). It's invaluable, how this information comes in handy once you are experimenting and/or implementing the strategies you will learn here. Just reading a thread is not half as good as making notes on it.

I kinda do the same! But I just bookmark the pages, but I will download Evernote and give it a go to see if that fits with my learning style
