I'm in the same boat as you and Telegram directories didn't really work for me - most of them are useless.
What I found really helpful was the search feature on Telegram and then when you join channels you get suggested channels. I kept rinsing and repeating this process until I compiled a list I was satisfied with - much more targeted and higher quality than those channels listed in Directories.

Telegram's search algorithm is still quite boring. I tried using a proxy or VPS from another country, but the rate of finding strange channels is still quite low. You can ask people in that country to help search and send links, it will be faster and more effective

You can search for "Telegram channel [country name]" on Google

When you subscribe to a channel, it will read other channels to you in the search below. There are also sites divided into thematic channels, you can search there, region selection, region and other flexible settings to choose from.
