Where can I buy PLR e-books?

Perhaps my google-fu is weak, but I've only been able to find a couple of quasi-legitimate looking sites where I can buy the private label rights to ebooks.

Does anyone know of a good site or two which sells many ebooks in different categories?

Anytime I do a search I end up with tons of crappy landing/squeeze pages. I want to find a good place with a shopping cart where I can just load up on cheap ebooks from different niches.

Also...am I wasting my time/money actually buying PLR books? Do I really need to purchase them? Am I actually protecting myself legally by doing so?

My intention is to use the (personally edited) PLR ebooks as occasional giveaways to my subscribers/followers. Anyone point me in the right direction?

I just thought perhaps there might be a generally accepted/trusted go-to site (or method) for this kind of thing that I was overlooking or something. Seems like it would be a good market and I'm surprised there aren't more professional looking sites.

I doubt that anyone would come after you for edited PLR e-books even you wouldn't pay for those...
