When to start SEO on my site?

Hi Guys

I recently bought a domain, but my business will not be going live for another 6 months. The idea will be to have a 'coming soon' on the homepage. Now here is a question... I would like to start building backlinks and ranking the domain is this a good thing to do ? Will it still rank even though it will essentially be a 'coming soon page'. Any tips of what I can do now leading up to the date it goes live.

ideally when I go live I want to be on first page for many local terms and would like to put the effort it now.

All advice much appreicated. :)

I didn't start link building until my site was several months old - and I still ranked 1st for keywords with just on page SEO.
 
I would add all the content right away, because the "sandbox" period is about 3-9+ months anyway.
 
You can start after a few weeks, once it's fully indexed.
 
Don't do links for a page saying 'Coming Soon'. Better bring the site up with all the content and info now, you won't get calls until you ranked, so don't have to worry about it.
 
You have to ask yourself this. Would you link to a coming soon page? If you're not in a position to publish your site yet, concentrate on getting all your content ready, on-page SEO and take a good look at your website to check that it's ready to go live.
 
If you have to do this just use nofollow links until your site goes live.
 
if you really wanna do a heads up use your social media profiles for that, do not do links for a coming soon homepage
 
Switch to a proper front end version of your website. A coming soon page has no content which could be build upon. Thus ranking with a coming soon page is nearly impossible.
 
Build the site and add content now - get it fully up and running. Then build social media profiles. Start your seo in a few months time.
 
First publish your content then start with SEO. It'd be pretty difficult to move up in SERPS without content. Make sure your on-Page SEO is on point.
 
I've had some success building backlinks prior to content being on new domains. I would recommend directory links, web 2.0s, YT videos, google stack, and social shares. Anchors should be approx 80% urls and 20% generic. I wouldn't touch keyword anchors until after 2-3 months or when you start seeing your content hit page 5 in serps.

By no means will you skip the G sandbox, but it has given me a jolt based off a recent site I tested on.

As always, this is just my experience and I encourage you to try testing it out on a dummy domain you can write off if things dont go well.

I spammed a domain on my first attempt with this strategy using keyword anchors and stayed in the sandbox for 4-5 months :rolleyes:
 
What the other said. Get the content up and running now so in a few months when you build links, it's easier to establish a profile which will get you ranking as opposed to generating links on a 1 page coming soon site.
 
Wow blown away by the responses. Will take all onboard :) I think my priority will be to get the site done, but mention to public an opening date so I dont stay getting phone calls!
 
Don't start until your website is ready with all content.

However if you want to start now, add couple blogs in your niche and start basis SEO/ Social Media Stuff etc etc.
 
SEO Starts from Keywords analytics , Once you choose perfect Keywords which are easy to rank which have low in competition and high in searches. Then you have to do some on- page SEO and off- Page SEO. I must say picking up the right keywords is the first and foremost thing in SEO.
 
I would wait about 2-3 months before I start building any link.
