When the hell did Google roll this out?

Has anyone else noticed this?

Google is HIGHLIGHTING TEXT on the landing pages for featured snippets at its own will.

I searched for "optical fiber" on Google (search location set to United States)

This is the featured snippet:



Here's what the landing page looked like:



Notice the text highlighted in yellow and the URL as well. I'm noticing a similar trend with all featured snippet landing pages. Though this should have no direct impact on the rankings but this may very well affect the avg. session duration and hence the ranking

Wasn't it like that for a while? I mean... even in organic search google highlights text in description, or am I missing something?

Yes, it has been few days now.
Google wants the user to find the snippet as easily as possible, i guess.

Yeah, its much better found this with a few searches recently
