when should i start mass unfollowing?

right now i do 500 unfollowing just to get rid of people who dont follow back after 1 day. i have 3,230 followers and im following 2,730

when should i start mass unfollowing people that follow back? say i have 10,000 followers and im following 9,000. i think that looks bad. i want to have like 5,000 following and and 15,000 followers (random example). i see accounts with that all the time. when should i start doing more unfollowing?

I would do every 4 days, give people time to follow back and then unfollow 500 users over the next 3 days. That's the method I plan on using.

1 to 1 is ok ratio. You'll loose too many followers if unfollow from 15k to 5k (from your example)
