When it is too much inner linking?

Hello,

currently im setting up a website with a lot of more or less low competition longtail keywords (15~).
I will be writing them myself and in the first article i realized, that i can easily input 5 or more links to inner pages of my website, anchored with the longtail keyword phrase, of course.

Will this look spammy for google or will i receive a penalty for doing that?

I know, sites like youtube have a very strong inner linking structure and so on.
If there is anybody who has made experience with this, please share.

inner link is essential to get indexed and ranked without backlinks. good for new content published and so on.

you only need to avoid "link canabalization": avoid too much inner links getting juicy for the same keyword.

Thorough internal linking is an absolute must. You want a reasonably flat PR flow throughout your internal pages so they all get indexed, except that you want to drive extra link juice to the pages targetting your most high competition keywords. You also want to point as much internal anchor text to your inner pages as possible.

Just don't overdo it with the keyword links. If you have an article you want to rank for a certain term, you don't want to find every instance of that term on your site and link it. They know when you do this and it will bite you in the ass. Also remember that anchor text isn't everything, context is important too. Being in a relevant block of text can be just as important.

If you want to play it safe, the best thing to do is not to think about anchor text in terms of ranking at all, but to insert links to other pages where you feel that a user would possibly benefit from the information. You can make a list of all your articles and go through each one cross checking for relevant opportunities.

It's too much when you link for SEO side effects and not for the user benefit.

i agree with dannyhw. Dont overdo the keyword linking. It may look spammy.

you may be wondering how much inner linking you can put on 1 page as well.

in my opinion, include only 100 or less links according to the google webmaster guidelines. If your website contains more than 100 pages then you must create a sitemap for your website and add all the links in the sitemap and submit it in google, yahoo and msn.
