When it is time to switch to VPS?

So guys today I got an idea to switch from shared hosting to VPS - do not really know why . So have checked some information using Google search, and I was shocked.

People referring there, that once your site has more than 300 UVs per day, you should switch to VPS... Well, I have way more visitors than this on daily basis. On the other hand, I never really saw any of my sites being down or something.

Can someone please advice me what statistics, numbers, etc. should I check to know if I should switch to VPS? Thank in advance for any advice!

300 UVs per day is not big amount to switch to VPS. When you feel that your sites is down or taking much time to open due to huge traffic then is the time to switch to VPS. But, I want to suggest first concern with webhost regarding this would be better idea.

When your shared host kicks you out.

It really depends on how much memory/CPU your site is using. 300 UVs a day can vary dramatically from site to site when it comes to that.

Depends a lot on your provider, how loaded down the server is, how heavy your code is (lots of plugins, flash, etc.), and if your load is distributed through out the day or occurs at peak times.

Thank you guys. I have in fact about 1500 UVs a day on one website, but it's from all around the world so it's pretty distributed through the whole day because of time zones.

Site uses no flash, no banner ads, and just normal Wordpress plugins, like FB likes. When we talk about this, is there any good site where I can check the loading time of my website, and is there any way how I can check if my side was down in any moment?

Also be careful about what VPS you move onto, I have used some VPS services that were slower than shared hosting!

that's because you should optimize the VPS first before you use it to suit your needs, no VPS is good out of the box

try getting managed VPS if you don't know how to optimize it.
