I have a friend that asks me for money every few months. Problem is I'm currently facing financial problems but he still asks me. How do you stop yourself from giving out money? So far I've tried to help him for like 700usd(not a lot but its like 2 months salary here). I'm a bit exhausted at this point(due to having my own financial issues)
A lot of responses here are posted by people who love money, and that have made money their god. So they say things like, "Don't give him anything because it's not helping him" or "people are poor by choice". These are false rationalizations made by people who are greedy and selfish, who fail to realize that the portion they have in their life was given to them and not earned.
If you are in a position to help someone who needs it, you can and should even if it sometimes makes it more difficult for yourself, but at the same time you should consider what the real problem is. For example, if your friend has issues with gambling then giving him money just enables it. The same is true if he is spending it on drugs or alcohol. But if he is using it to feed his family, then his times of trouble will eventually pass.
When should you stop giving? At the same time you decide to stop accepting the things that are freely given to you each day.
