So I've been looking at some expired domains.
For example, say I'm in the tire business and already have my own branded website. One day I was looking at expired domains and found an expired domain www.tirereviews.com with 34 BL- 3 DP- 33 ACR- 8 years old. It costs a few dollars.

Is it worth buying, if so what could be done with it?

Remember this is just an example.

301 Redirect it to your site.

Or reload the original content and write a fresh piece linking back to your site.

So even though the domain at the moment is dead, it can still generate me traffic?

It may possibly recieve traffic depending on where the back links are placed. But it isnt generally the traffic you are after it is the link juice, which could add some stats to your main site.

It comes down to trust score, CF etc etc.

what sites you use to find them? justdropped.com? expireddomanis.com?

So the point of purchasing a website like this would be to fill it with backlinks?

That is generally the most powerful use for such a domain. You could 301 it but unless it is really relevant to your current website's content then you may not see much of an improvement.

Building a website on top of an expired domain and then using that website to link back to your money site is what is likely to show the biggest SEO benefit. The expired domain based website may even start ranking for certain keywords which could be used to funnel traffic through to your money site as well.

Don't go with 301 with any random domain, unless you know what you are doing.

Could you elaborate on how similar the content needs to be for the 301 method to work? Let's say I have an adult tube site, would all domains from the adult/porn niche be helpful or do I need the domain of a former porn tube site?

Lets say my Plumbing business is in Toronto and the expired domain business i want to buy with 300BL was a Plumbing business in New Jersey. Would a 301 be worth it?

I thought Google doesn't give you a bonus if the domain died and then was regenerated.
I thought it would start counting from the new revival on.
