Whch Linux Distribution do you recommend?

I used SUSE for ages but had problems with some hardware and all the help online was more for ubuntu and some other more popular distros...I gave Ubuntu a try and really liked it and for a starter linux distro is well worth a go, plenty of help online and little need to get your hands dirty in text files.
Good thing to do is use VMWare or Virtualbox and load up several distros into a virtual machine and see which one you like best.
If your looking to have a VPS at a later point learning the likes of CentOS and Ubuntu which are popular for a VPS server (amongst others) may help you with admin tasks later on.

For the most appealing graphical interface, use Mandriva Linux.
Ubuntu is the most easy to use but not the safest.
After 1-2 years you could try to use Slackware.
If you want to do "security testing" use the Backtrack distribution (you do not have to install anything, it runs from CD).
I find Debian to be a tough experience for a beginner
Ubuntu not the safest in what way? Windoze has over 120,000 viruses, and
Linux has 50 viruses, so what is the safest? I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10
and no viruses. On another machine I am testing Windoze 7.0
All is normal and quiet with Ubuntu, Windoze however has been showing
attacks already. So explain to me what is unsafe about Ubuntu?

UBUNTU if you are totally newbie and don't wants to change this
ARCH LINUX if you wants to learn linux, simply fast & configurable distro
(this is my choice after been > 10 years linux admin)

Backtrack is very cool! It's a very niche specific distro, so keep that in mind if you decide to check it out.
Rather than waiting until you buy another PC, check out VirtualPC from Microsoft. It's free now, and you can create a VHD (virtual HD) and install just about any OS you want, with the exception of OSX. I even have OS2 running on a VHD (just because).
