I think their servers are getting hacked. And their server OSes along with all the code got deleted.

You're not far off. News is WhatsApp clones were hacked stealing Whatsapp accounts.

Another day another data breach for good old Mark "I stole it all from the Winklevoss twins" Zuckerberg.
 
It has been over 2 hours now and my stress levels are down by %35.

I published 2 stories on it in my tech blog and got dozens of page views.

so it's working great so far.
 
I wonder how complex it must be to run whatsapp servers though. I can't even begin to imagine

The Russian Government added Meta to 'terrorist and extremist organisations' - They did however spare Whatsapp. My theory is Highly likely, a state sponsored actor was up to no good for the purposes of intelligence, makes sense really, when you see how many people use it to communicate. They will likely blame the issue on "faulty configuration" or something along those lines, to stop panic, uproar, backlash and worry.

I tend to think a company of this size and having some of the most talented people in the world working for them, can make such mistakes ?
