You are correct. You will need sims because whatsapp will block your account for 30 days if you are caught spamming system.

Our system can basically send out 100k on a fully loaded system.
Cost is at $3950. I know people are going to yell at that price but if you compare using a GSM modem, software and also top up cards, you probably have cost savings if you send once you send out more than 1 Million text messages.

The advantages of WhatsApp is clear.
You get longer text messages and are able to get your sales pitch across.
You are able to format your WhatsApp messages unlike SMS.
Cheaper in the long run then text messages because it is using the Internet to send out your message versus using SMS which cost you money.
Younger subset of people and demographics tend to be a richer bunch because the end user is going to be using a smart phone.
Ability to narrow in on your potential customers in the sense that you are able to get the number of the whatsapp user.
Ability to market your products/service to a neighbouring country, while SMS would be really costly to you.

Disadvantages
Everyone has a phone or at least most have a mobile phone. So SMS is more prevalent and can reach a bigger audience.
If you use an autodialer using a GSM modem you can probably also scrap the information of which numbers are active etc.
WhatsApp will block your numbers if you do not know what you are doing.
WhatsApp if they change their algorithm may affect the performance...

I am not trying to promote my system. Just a discussion of what are the pros and cons in a nutshell here.

Before we embarked on creating the system, we were like most people who were sending out tonnes of SMS. At one time, I was sending out 3 million SMS using GSM modems and waiting for calls etc.

The cost was still acceptable to me because we were on an unlimited SMS plan. But they plugged that very quickly here.

That was when we looked at WhatsApp. And that was when we developed our own system. The issues are huge really, eg, connectivity etc. But guess they can be countered.

I have looked at doing WhatsApp eWhoring because someone asked us to do it. Now, that would be an interesting project though.

If anybody is interested, I have my own software which can send out bulk messages through whatsapp.
I'm pretty much emulating the official app (not sure if there's another way really). Accounts get banned quickly if used incorrectly as "whatsappbulk" has correctly pointed out. Incorrectly meaning, spam, not syncing numbers, etc.

Honestly, I didn't have too much time for testing this. It can mostly do registration, synching, sending and receiving messages, etc. If anyone is interested in this, feel free to drop me a message.

Wow, you are up step ahead of me in the sense you do two way communication instead of one.

One thing I do need to point out is URLs sent out from our system is a stagnant URL. Did you manage to sort that out?

Maybe I should do a journey about my WhatsApp marketing here. Anyone want to hear about it?

Anyway, one thing I think I should point about WhatsApp Marketing is I tend to try to stop sending WhatsApp by 8-9 pm local time. That is because the response is good, but no matter how much money there is, I hate to wake up in the middle of the night to ask enquiries etc. Which to a large extent means I waste 12 hours of my servers doing nothing.

Maybe I should just do something 12 hours different from me to make sure it is running 24 hours a day.

I am sorry about the pricing. But you can always approach me to do a test run and I can assure you that you will find out pricing very attractive in the long run.
