Hey guys!

I typically just have a VPN but I still connect to hotel/restaurant wifi. Is it really that dangerous even after using VPN?

What other opsec do you take when traveling?

VPN is usually fine. Shouldn’t be necessary to take a whole lot of other precautions unless you are traveling to a restrictive country and depending on your work.

thanks for your reply!

my friend says using those hotels and restaurants wifi.... i may be at risk of getting hacked and all my accounts stolen..... he's somewhat experience in IT so it's kinda making me paranoid

Yes, if you do not use VPN and do a lot of manual input of user logins etc on public network it can be dangerous. Typically only if someone is actually monitoring it but you may never know who is sitting in a hotel room a few meters away and their capabilities.

Yes, for logins I'm looking into buying a yubikey so need physical device to login. But what if I'm logged in to my accounts and connects to a public wifi.... what can they do realistically? hijack my computer? or they only able to capture information transmitted
