In the SEO world, everyone has a different strategy for backlink profiles. But if you look closely at the link exchanges, most buyers fall into one of these 5 archetypes.

Which one are you?

:ox:
THE BULLS: Mass & Momentum
Their motto: More is more. They grab 30-50 links a month, banking on high volume to push through competitive niches.
The Catch: It works, but only if the quality of the domains is solid. If not, they’re just building a house of cards.

:bear:
THE BEARS: The Panic-Pausers
Every time Google drops a core update, they go into hibernation. They put everything on hold to see what happens, while their rankings slowly slide. Once they see the drop, they panic-buy 100+ links in a single week.
The Result: Link spikes that look unnatural and keep them in a cycle of rank and tank.

:hamster:
THE HAMSTERS: The Budget Hunters
They only look at two things: DR (Domain Rating) and a low price tag. They can’t resist those "$50 for 1,000 links" packages.
The Reality: They save money upfront but end up with a toxic link profile that takes months (and a lot of money) to clean up.

:wolf:
THE WOLVES: The Systematizers
The pros. They buy regularly, distribute the volume evenly, and keep a hawk-eye on their anchor text distribution. No spikes, no drama—just a consistent, disciplined growth strategy.
The Win: Predictable results and long-term authority.

:shark:
THE SHARKS: High-End Predators
Like the Bulls, they move 50+ links a month, but they hunt with surgical precision. They target aged, niche-relevant sites where:
  1. Links are placed on high-traffic pages.
  2. Outbound links are capped (OBL < 6).
  3. The history is clean and the placement is permanent.
The Result: Stable growth without the rollercoaster effect.

Where do you sit on this list today? Or have you spotted a different beast in the SEO jungle?

Haha, your post definitely made me smile

In your post, I’m the shark. I handle over 500 placements per month for my clients - and these are solid platforms that pass dozens of different filters.

If we also count forum links, Web 2.0, and other lower-tier links, we build 20,000+ links per month.

Those are big numbers, no doubt. But 500 high-quality placements + 20k lower-tier links monthly… that’s serious velocity. How do you avoid footprint and dilution at that scale? Are you segmenting projects by tier or mixing everything into one profile?

I love this post - did not really know about these
