What's Your First Step When a Website Loses Rankings?

Go with the next domain...its best to work with 5-8-10 domains at a time....try to make the most out of all...if those die go to next ones and so on.

Or...buy yourself a powerful expired domain (make subdomains on it..link from main domain to the subdomains, a 301 from a post from main strong domain to the subdomain) then spam the shit of those subdomains with whatever you need.

Sometimes a website suddenly loses rankings and traffic drops. what is the first thing you check when this happens?
Google update, backlinks, technical issues, content, or something else?
I just GSC to see if my posts get indexed. If they are not I update them in a week's time.

My very first step is checking GSC to see if the traffic drop is sitewide or just on a few specific pages. At the same time, I look for recent Google update rollouts and check the Manual Actions tab. If those are clear, I run a quick technical audit to make sure no accidental noindex tags were pushed.

The first thing I check is whether there was a recent Google update or a technical issue.
After that, I'd review indexing, search console errors, traffic patterns, and then look at backlinks and content changes to find the cause.
