Thugs or not, Like @BassTrackerBoats said, I presumed them to be a random group of guys taking a stroll. Since there is a bias towards Afro-Americans across the US, Hence!

Also, the bias is unfounded. It's simply what the media purports. Take the ADL, NAACP and many other minority defending organizations and you'll quickly see that they are a protected group of people.
