I've been reading that many successful companies leverage medium guest posting as a republishing content from your site on there - that way you can index and credit the content at your site first and show search engines that you're the author. The medium post will just be a duplicate content, with some footer text to link back to you.

Would this be more effective than just writing good content and linking back?

I wouldn't use my website content on medium or any other places, I'd rather write something for those sites seperately and link back to my site.
There are cases, seen some here on bhw, where a post on midium or FB would outrank your own site (even though your content was indexed first on your own site).

There are many companies who drive traffic from medium to their website and post original content on medium and use it as their blog because of the domain authority of medium, don't use it as a re-production content platform.

It used heavy your method seem to work .

Parasites are used a lot as well.

I suggest to use unique and informative content and link back to the site. If its valuable content will help to drive traffic to the site.

You can use content from article submission website for your medium. You have to choose your keywords wisely though.

I suggest you to use new HQ article and get backlink to your site.

Problem is if you publish your blog article on medium, it will always outrank blog article, so you will lose on SERP traffic.

I doubt medium traffic can compensate for loss in SERP traffic.

i found an article that used about 1k words and target a long tail keywords to https://castlejackson.com.au or blogs
