What's working in Google Places these days?

I'm a bit out of touch with Google places but need to push one of my sites back up. Am I right in saying citations are dead and Google Places is now more based on organic ranking position? Would appreciate some tips..

nope... I have 3 sites that have taken a -100 penalty and they have almost the same amount of traffic due to the top 3 ranking in places. Getting a blended ranking may be another matter

Keyword diversity is very Important in Link building.... Also mind your onpage keyword density

Keep going with the citations. There's also a very helpful thread on BHW called google places resources... Also keep in mind there's been a HUGE change in Google places... its dead. it's not Google + Local

Presently, Google place listing not update frequently, there are many way to optimize Google place, you can search in SE's here more option are available.

No Citations aren't dead. we are still very successful with our clients. Add some social signals to your places page and diversify your citations.
