I have been testing different SEO strategies in 2026 and i notice that somethings seem to be working better than others.
For those actively ranking sites:

  • What's giving you the best results lately?
  • Are backlinks still your biggest ranking factor?
  • How much focus are you putting on topical authority and internal linking?
  • Have you noticed any changes after recent Google updates?

Interested to hear real-world experiences from others.

Backlinks are still the #1 factor.

If you want a tip, get away of Domain Rating of Ahrefs. Can not say more.

These days it seems like sites that fully cover a topic and connect their pages well internally are getting more traction while backlinks still play a role but mostly as a boost on top of already relevant content

internal linking is underrated and most people heavily misjudge that when it’s actually one of the faster wins available.

From what I've seen, the biggest gains lately have come from improving topical coverage and internal linking rather than chasing individual keywords. Backlinks still matter, especially in competitive niches, but they seem to work much better when the site already demonstrates strong expertise around a topic.

One thing I've noticed after recent updates is that publishing more content doesn't automatically help anymore. Sites with fewer but more comprehensive and well connected pages often seem to outperform larger sites with lots of thin or overlapping content. That's just my experience though. Curious to hear what others are seeing in different niches.

Backlinks that generate organic traffic, along with a strong internal linking structure, are key. This assumes your on-page SEO is solid and that you have good user retention.

Internal linking and covering a topic deeply have been giving better results than chasing backlinks. Backlinks still matter, but sites with strong topical coverage hold rankings much better after updates.

- Trying to cover the entire topic.
- Interlinking is important as ever
- ONLY niche related guest posts, nothing else. No defined frequency, whenever I feel like it and whenever it feels normal.

That's it. That's my entire thing. Although I moved to AI heavily in the last year. But the strategy remain the same.

does articles written by AI actually bring in buyers? I had some traffic coming in but cant tell whether they are buying or not

My focus has shifted toward topical clusters instead of targeting random keywords. Supporting articles linked together have helped rankings become much more stable.

After the recent updates matching search intent has become a bigger priority pages that answer the query clearly seem to hold rankings better

I've seen better consistency from improving site structure and content depth before building links. The ranking tend to hold up better over time.

Quality content relevant link and regular update still work

Updating old content + better internal linking is giving me the quickest wins lately. Backlinks still matter, but relevant links from sites with real traffic beat chasing random DR numbers imo.
