I havent used MS in a long while. Just downlaoded the newest trial version, and one of the most important metrics (local intitle competition and inURL competition) wont load unless you click "show" one by one.

    What gives?

Is there any way aroudn this? I ahve a list of 2000 keywords and I dont have time to click 2000 times...

Oh wait. I don't use those settings. When I turn them on, I'm seeing the same thing. All I really use is SEOT and AWCPC.

These are totally the metrics I base my research on. Exact title search in your country is the best way to quickly gauge comp before researching in depth.

Do you guys use something different?

From experience, basing your research on metrics such as exact title and # of competiting pages will just lead to you missing out on a lot of gems. I just find words with big traffic numbers and reverse engineer the #1 spot for that word to gauge competition. I'm in it to beat the first spot, not the 3143234324 junky sites behind it. Personal preference though, I guess.

Sure I agree. But for heaven's sake you gotta filter it out a little or you'll spend all year researching one niche.

I use SB to scrape thousands of keywords in a single niche, you mean to tell me you just manually check the backlinks for each #1 spot?

No. I don't focus on keyword research as much as most people advise you to. I'm fortunate to have plenty of resources to allow me to tackle most of the "bigger" words and create authorities sites. I literally just look at the AWCPC and if most of the kw for that niche have awcpc of ~$3 and the traffic is big enough I'll target it. I don't bother with looking at # of competing pages, all in title, blahblahblah. I just run the #1 site through spyglass and it tells me all I need to know.

Interesting. Can I ask you to talk about what things would cause you to avoid chasing a #1 page? Certain number of links? where the links come from? pagerank?

Determining whether its worth chasing a word or not is probably the same process as most people. If the site has a "ton" of high quality links, perfectly optimized site on an aged domain...I'll usually pass. The reason why I put the word "ton" in quotes is because that word is subjective. For example...a site that has say 30 PR5 , 60 PR4, and 23424 lesser PR backlinks pointing to it can be considered "too hard" for alot of people, but for others its beatable. Its all a matter of having a "feel" of what is possible with your resources. I don't do anything "tricky" or use a special method or anything.

The updates to Market Samurai are actually an improvement. For nearly two months (maybe a little more) the SEOTC and the URL competition option have been completely gone, removed.

I actually had to hire someone to create a tool to allow me to check 1000's of keywords to run them and get their SEOTC / URL etc competition numbers.

It's hard to do this because Google has limited pulls so you have to do some pretty interesting things to get this to work.

If you have thousands of keywords you need run to check all their competition contact me and I can get it done for you in bulk. I asked a month ago if anyone would be interested in paying monthly to access my tool but the response was limited. :p

I don't know about monthly access, but if you give out a few review copies I'm sure you can sell this tool outright.

Does this thing make use of rotating private proxies?

This is just their fix for now-- they will probably keep working on it until they can get SEOTC and SEOLUC to actually appear. This is a decent workaround, though, because (as another poster said), this info wasn't available at all for two months, and that was sad.
