What's the most compatible operating system for an old pc?

I have an old pc (AMD 3800 x2, 3gb ram) that I use for Senuke, Gscraper and some bots for social media.
The problem is that it doesn't get along well with Win 8 (and with Win 7 too, I suppose) due to drivers problems.
Now I need to install an operating system that is compatible with its old drivers and with the programs I'm using.
What operating system would you choose?

Did you try with Windows Server 2008. I have and old PC with 3GB RAM and it's working pretty well with Windows Server 2008. You will need only a driver for the LAN but I think that Windows Server 2008 will automatically detect that driver.
 
Winxp tiny (beast edition) blindingly fast and you'll find it hard to match the speed on any other platform except some of the smaller linux ones.
 
Vista will use a whole Gb of my ram, and I need it for scraping... Xp has less than a year of support.

I've never tried it, how much ram does it use at start?
 
Seriously, you're worried about support? First and foremost if you rely on a pc for your business YOU should know how to fix issues and errors. Period!

I repair pcs for hobby, but an os that is no more updated is unusable.
 
just use windows vista ultimate 32bits hehe j/k

try linux/unix/centos/fedora/etc

Well, I'm not saying no to any option, just trying to see if there's something that I haven't considered.

Also, I would like to receive some advice regarding the compatibility of the usual seo tools on the various os... till now nobody talked about it, so I guess that almost everything runs fine on every so.
 
Windows XP.

If not, try Linux Mint. You'll be amazed how good it is. Linux these days is far easier to use than in the past. And this is coming from a Windows fan.
 
I would go with Windows Server 2003/2008, it is very fast especially on slow computers.

Just buy a new cheap laptop.
