If you types in a search term in google and you got 2 Million pages returned, would you enter that market? Would you think its doable to get to the top or is that too big? What is the maximum pages you would go up against?
my stupid thing which I`ve done till now ? competition of 169,000,000 hell yeah I`m still on 43 spot for this term ... soon will be on first page -= me dreaming =-
I was thinking maybe 2,000,000 is my max and with some hard work I can get to the top half of the first page. I know it all depends on what the comp has done, but any more then that I think it will be close to impossible. Anyone disagree or agree?
I went for a keyword returning 102,000,000 Results 10 days ago. I am now in position 5. All I did was set up a site. I do not have any magic fix or silver bullet, I was just lucky Try your luck, it may pay off. Hint: web 2.0
Surely you are going to drop like a stone! Hope not mate, but how can a 10 day old website beat that many competitors?
Well, it started at position 40, then went to 13, now it's at 5. I am hastily constructing a powerful linkwheel to try and maintain its position. It might drop, it might not. All I was saying is that raw competition figures don't mean all that much. Never let it put you off.
Yeah I understand mate, but there must be some sort of limit that Internet marketers have discovered. Or maybe not. Hope your site sticks mate
2,000,000 is my max aswell. And it depends ALOT on the actual pages inside the top10 serps. Are they authorities? Are they web2.0 sites? are they article directory's? video sites? etc
I never look at the pages returned to estimate my competition. At the very least I would do an allintitle: But if I am going to give it at least 30 seconds thought then I do a linkdomain with Yahoo and look at position 1, 5, and 10. The more interested I am the more time I will spend but in my opinion the raw pages returned figure shows almost nothing. By some huge coincidence the pages returned figure is what the gurus and sales people always like to show for the overhyped products they are launching. Dennis
If I'm trying to rank something like an article put on ezine articles its deffinately not a max at 2 million. Max is 5+m. Because ezinearticles is such an established site. But if it were my own website, well it would be much lower. I'm lazy.
Hmm, well really I'd have to see the sites that were ranking for the term, but about 160 million would probably be my max if the traffic/return etc were good enough.
Are you referring to search term in quotes for exact match like "big booty girls" or simple search like: big booty girls?
The number of pages returned is irrelevant. The only thing that really counts are the web pages returned for the listing on page 1. Use SEO quake for Firefox to check the PR, etc. If the first ten listings are all PR 4 and above then I think really hard about whether it will be worth the effort. But, even if everything is high PR pages, that doesn't mean that you cannot easily get to page 1. Check to see if the titles and urls are targeted to your keyword phrase. If they are all targeted, then start checking the number of backlinks using Yahoo explorer. Then, decide whether or not the competition is more than you want to tackle. If there are a bunch of zero PR pages and non-targeted titles and urls, then by all means go for it. With enough backlinks and good seo you can get to page 1. The key is to never assume that you cannot rank for a phrase.
Yeah I'm not skilled at seo at all and and I've been in the top 5 with an old site and I got there within three days with no work at all. Also I have been there for three months now. Like everybody is saying that is not a sufficient number you are using though I use broad check and exact check when I search for keywords. Also it's all a thing effort. Bet there are some people here who own the first page of a lot of nice keywords but we will probably never find out.
